Packers GM Ted Thompson usually leaves the NFL Meetings early, but this year he'll miss them altogether.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Ted Thompson has never been the biggest fan of the annual NFL Meetings anyway, but the Green Bay Packers general manager will miss them entirely this year because of a personal matter, a club spokesman said.

It’s unclear what will keep Thompson away from this year’s meetings, which kick off Monday morning at The Ritz-Carlton Orlando Grande Lakes resort. Team spokesman Jason Wahlers said Thompson will be back in Green Bay monitoring free agency and preparing for the 2014 NFL Draft.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy, president/CEO Mark Murphy and vice president of administration/player finance Russ Ball will be among those representing the Packers at the meetings. McCarthy is slated to arrive Sunday evening and will take part in the annual NFC coaches breakfast on Wednesday, when he’ll meet with local and national reporters for an hour. The meetings conclude Wednesday.

Thompson has historically left the meetings early each year – usually on Tuesday, one day before the adjourn – to get back to scouting and his free agency/draft work. He, Murphy and McCarthy traditionally discuss whatever measures are on the docket and determine how the Packers will vote on each one. McCarthy and Murphy then remain to vote on the club’s behalf.
