MADISON - Dominic Cizauskas, once a member of the 2014 recruiting class at the University of Wisconsin, has been charged with sexual assault.
The 18-year-old Cizauskas made his initial court appearance on Monday on a charge of third-degree sexual assault.
According to the criminal complaint, the alleged incident took place on Dec. 14 at a campus residence hall. The alleged victim told authorities she had been studying when she heard someone asking for directions to her room. Cizauskas then opened her door and walked in. The two had been exchanging text messages earlier in the night. The woman said that Cizauskas smelled of alcohol and he told her that he had “consumed 10 shots within one half-hour”.
The complaint states the alleged assault occurred over the next hour, with Cizauskas undressing the victim and forcing her to have intercourse. The woman, a UW student, told authorities it was not consensual.
“I tried to make excuses trying to get him to leave,” the victim said in the complaint. “I didn’t know what to do. I was by myself, my roommate went home for the weekend and he’s a 200 pound football player and he had been drinking.”
Cizauskas and the woman had previously engaged in consensual sex, with the most recent event coming in June of 2013.
Video obtained from the residence hall showed Cizauskas entering an elevator at 12:58 a.m. and getting back on the elevator at 2:07 a.m.
According to 247Sports.com, a recruiting website, Cizauskas was on campus that weekend for his official visit.
At his court appearance Monday morning, Cizauskas had a signature bond set at $500 and is due back in the Dane County Courthouse for a status conference on March 31.
As part of his bond, Cizauskas can’t have contact with the alleged victim and can't be on the University of Wisconsin campus.
Cizauskas was suspended from the Mukwonago High School basketball team in February for what was reported as a violation of the school’s athletic code. He later returned to the team and was in Madison for the state tournament this weekend. Mukwonago lost to Neenah on Friday night in the Division One semifinals.
A two-star linebacker, Cizauskas was expected to sign his letter of intent with the Badgers on Feb. 5 but due to the investigation that did not occur.
UW officials can’t comment on an unsigned recruit.
