GREEN BAY – While he was not definitive, Mike McCarthy used what is usually code for “he’s not going to play this week” when talking to the Tennessee media about veteran cornerback Charles Woodson.
The Green Bay Packers coach was asked in a conference call Wednesday by reporters covering the Titans whether he thought Woodson, out since suffering a broken collarbone at St. Louis on Oct. 21, might play Sunday.
“You know, he’s going to be pressed to make it back this week,” McCarthy replied. “But he’s practicing, so we’ll see how it goes.”
It’s hard to think of a time when McCarthy has said a player would be “pressed” or “hard pressed” to play and then the player actually played that week.
Woodson has been listed for the past two days as practicing on a limited basis. Earlier in the week, McCarthy said it was important for Woodson to play before the postseason starts; on Sunday in Chicago, Woodson said he intended to return to action before the playoffs.
That would leave only the Dec. 30 regular-season finale at Minnesota for Woodson to play in before the postseason.
