MADISON – Wisconsin senior forward Mike Bruesewitz has suffered a significant injury to his lower right leg that will sideline him for 4-to-6 weeks, according to a UW athletic department press release.
Sources close to the situation told ESPN Wisconsin that Bruesewitz was on a fast break when his momentum carried him out of bounds and toward a stationary basket standard Tuesday afternoon. There, Bruesewitz came into contact with some exposed metal and suffered a deep laceration, one that UW announced required surgery.
A source said Bruesewitz has well over 100 stitches in the area of the wound.
“It was a one in a million thing,” a source said Wednesday morning.
“Bruesewitz injured his leg after awkwardly coming in contact with the back half of a basket standard, while diving out of bounds,” the UW athletic department press release said. “Bruesewitz is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks of action.
Wisconsin is scheduled to open practice Saturday, Oct. 13. The annual Red-White scrimmage is set for Nov. 4 and the first exhibition game is slated for Nov. 7.
