MADISON – We’re about 30 minutes from kickoff. Here are some quick notes and a prediction from yours truly…
-Wisconsin has won its season opening game every year since 1998, marking a span of 14 consecutive victories. That mark ties USC for the third-longest active streak in the FBS. Only Florida (26) and Florida (22) have longer such streaks.
-The Badgers currently boast the second-longest winning home winning streak (16) in the country. Only LSU’s 17-game winning steak is longer.
-Wisconsin has 111 players on its roster: 48 freshmen, 28 sophomores, 26 juniors and nine seniors.
-Montee Ball is currently 18 touchdowns shy of tying the all-time NCAA total touchdown record. He has scored 51 touchdowns in the 18 games he’s started.
-Bret Bielema’s career winning percentage (.759) as a head coach is good for fifth best among active FBS coaches.
NOSTRATHOMAS’ PREDICTION:
Northern Iowa is good, but there’s a difference from being good at the FCS level and being No. 12 in the county at the FBS level. Wisconsin will take some time to figure things out offensively, but Montee Ball and the rest of those backs will carry the load.
Ball rushes for 132 yards with three touchdowns and the Badgers win 38-14.
