Ohio State president rips Bielema
By TOM LEA
Wisconsin head football coach Bret Bielema has been on a roll in recent months stirring the pot of controversy.
During preparations for Wisconsin’s Rose Bowl game with Oregon, Bielema mentioned that he receives information from NFL general managers before providing it to players considering leaving Wisconsin early for the NFL.
Mike Florio eventually picked up those comments and talked about how wrong Bielema was for saying that — mostly because it breaks rules — in a post on ProFootballTalk.com.
Then approximately a week ago Bielema described some displeasure with newly hired Ohio State head coach and his recruiting practices.
“There’s a few things that happened early on (that) I made people be aware of that I didn’t want to see in this league that I had seen take place at other leagues,” Bielema said during his national signing day press conference. “Other recruiting tactics, other recruiting practices that are illegal.
“I actually reached out to Coach Meyer and shared my thoughts and concerns with him and the situation got rectified.”
Apparently those comments didn’t sit too well with current Ohio State president Gordon Gee. The vocal Gee told The Lantern, Ohio State’s student newspaper, that he views Meyer as the “finest” coach the college football world has to offer.
He also took a shot at Bielema in the same article.
“We hired the best coach and we went out and got the best kids,” Gee said. “So get a life.”
Gee has had a history of saying controversial things himself. Let's just say this adds a little more fuel to the budding UW-Ohio State rivalry.
